We are proud to present our latest technological milestone in the field of high-end audio reproduction: the apolitan Sperling – the result of intensive development work and uncompromising focus on analogue perfection.

How far can we go?

We have been passionately developing high-end audio solutions for over a decade, and from the beginning our core concern has been to provide our customers with a completely authentic and analogue sound experience - a quality that is difficult to achieve with digital source devices. With over a decade of experience and a network of the best developers, we made the decision to design a masterpiece from scratch.

Every component, every tiny detail of the Sperling has been carefully selected and optimized to achieve maximum precision and clarity in music reproduction. The technologies used set new standards and push the technical boundaries of what is possible in high-end audio technology today.

With the apolitan Sperling we present not only a music server, but a promise to the audiophile community: the combination of years of experience, innovative technology and an unwavering pursuit of perfect sound.

The apolitan Sperling is ready to exceed the highest expectations and transform every listening experience into a sonic masterpiece.

“The apolitan Sperling is a reference music server designed to play digital music from a library hard drive as well as streaming content from Qobuz and Tidal with the highest possible analog authenticity”

Each of our music servers continues to be modular. There is a clear structure that was selected exclusively based on topological sense in terms of interference between the components, as well as the shortest signal paths and the best performance.

The analog power supply takes up almost half of the available space and is finally separated from the server components by a massive partition wall.

Chassis

We designed the case ourselves to meet all aspects of low vibration and the necessary airflow. The base and lid were CNC milled from 6mm, the back panel from 10mm, the sides from 12mm and the front from 15mm aluminum according to Aerospace Standard 6061 and then finely sandblasted to achieve an elegant matte finish. The power button and the device feet were CNC turned from stainless steel.

Power Supply

A fast, stable power supply is a quality-determining factor in every audio component. A good power supply quickly becomes expensive, which is often the reason for suboptimal solutions.

For the apolitan Sperling we have developed a linear analog power supply that provides a separate power supply unit for each required voltage. Completely independent of each other.

This power supply could easily drive a power amplifier and our experience has shown that a digital source device reacts just as critically to circuit technology and component quality as a purely analogue component.

We invested a lot of time in developing the power supply because you can't buy something like this off the shelf. In fact, it's the fourth generation. It's amazing how much authenticity we were able to achieve in the presentation just by optimizing the power supply.

Transformer

The power supply unit is powered by a full-grown custom toroidal transformer from the best manufacturer in the world. The decision was quickly made to go for the highest possible level of development, multi-shielded and encased in a stainless steel cup. Supreme Audio Grade

Buffer capacitors

A whole bank of capacitors supports the power supply. There are also very big differences in this area. In keeping with the overall concept, there are 105° Low-ESR Audio Grade capacitors, which are also appreciated by developers of the most exclusive preamplifiers and power amplifiers

Rectification

The apolitan Sperling also works with DC, so the alternating AC voltage must be rectified. We use ultra-fast Schottky diodes, one quartet per voltage line. These are also normally only found in reference class audio equipment

Voltage regulator

High-precision LDOs are used to set and regulate the various voltages required. Voltage regulators that have a built-in reference voltage and independently keep the set voltage stable. They are very high-quality regulators that guarantee an extremely low ripple (i.e. they deliver battery-like current) and can also withstand very high loads. Overall, the voltage regulators can easily deliver almost 30A of current

EMI Filter

Nowadays, our power grids are under a lot of strain and unfortunately, in addition to the voltage, they also carry a lot of electrical pollution. It is very advisable to counteract this, so the Sperling has an effective EMI filter directly at the power supply input

DC Filter

Even if DC is required at the output, DC has no place at the input of the power supply. For this reason, we have also protected the apolitan Sperling against this possible interference

Computer Power

Every music server has a data center. It is responsible for all control and memory functions.

In normal everyday operation, there are no great demands on its performance. A processor utilization of the main CPU is in the range of zero and one percent. And that is also quite wanted.

However, there are also possible constellations that can result in higher processor utilization.

For example, if you want to influence the output signal in real time. For example, if you use a DAC that performs better when the music signal is highly sampled, such as our DSD DAC apolitan Nachtigall, a CPU can start to sweat. Or if you want to process frequency response corrections using envelopes, for example to make room corrections.

And last but not least, there is always an unknown when we talk about digital signal processing. We don't know whether in six months, two years, or maybe even tomorrow we will be presented with a format or processing process that requires greater performance potential. We want to take this into account and decided very early on to choose a modular hardware setup.

The format of our installed computer units corresponds to international standards that existed twenty years ago and will certainly exist in another twenty years. Even if a component or assembly fails, it can be replaced at any time. Longevity and future security - two important points for us that we want to ensure for our customers.

OS

The Roon Optimized Core Kit uses a hyper-slim operating system optimized exclusively for music playback

Full-fledged Roon Core

A full-fledged Roon Core is installed on the apolitan Sperling, which manages all control processes of the omnipotent Roon system

Native DSD

The apoltan Sperling plays almost every digital format, of course also our favorite 1Bit DSD format
